With the COVID-19 pandemic still gripping much of the world, every business has had to make significant changes to their operations. Healthcare in particular has been hard-hit, not just dealing with COVID-19 cases, but actively working to prevent potential further spread.
Dental practices have had to undergo significant overhauls to health and safety protocols in response. SARS COV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, is transmitted in water particles that can float in the air — particles emitted primarily from a person’s mouth. Coughing, speaking, and even just breathing can unleash these particles into the environment.
Working as closely with patients’ mouths as they do, dentists are at significant risk of contacting the disease, and spreading it to others. For this reason dentists have been mandated to implement a raft of additional safety precautions to ensure the health and wellbeing of staff and patients alike.
These measures are extensive, and unfortunately, there is a price attached. They include the strict use of PPE, frequent and thorough sanitization of working surfaces, and installing systems specifically to combat the presence of water particles in the air.
Without these measures, it would simply not be safe to continue practicing at this time. In order to maintain a virus-free, protective workspace, the costs of these interventions have regretfully needed to be shared amongst patient appointments as well.
If you do not have an urgent need for dental care, we strongly advise you to wait. If you do have an urgent need, the additional dental fees are an unfortunate but necessary cost of ensuring your safety during your appointment.
Thank you for your understanding.
