Invisalign differs from traditional orthodontics in that it uses clear plastic aligners to move teeth. This is instead of the usual brackets and wires that other orthodontics use. The clear plastic is difficult to see at a distance. Because of this, the system is very discrete.
How do Invisalign trays move your teeth?
Each set of aligners, or “trays”, is custom-fit to your teeth. However, they’re shaped in a way that puts gentle, constant pressure on them. By applying constant pressure, teeth gradually move into the right shape.
To make this possible, digital scans are taken of your teeth. Sophisticated computer software works out exactly what the aligners must look like to work. The computer can even show you how your teeth will look at the end of treatment before you begin.
That’s why the first step of getting Invisalign is to have a digital scan of your teeth. Once the treatment is planned out, the aligners are made and sent to your BrightSmile Avenue dentist.
How long does it take to get Invisalign trays after scans?
It usually takes around 4 weeks to receive your Invisalign trays after scans. The digital information is sent to Invisalign for manufacture, then back to your BrightSmile Avenue dentist. You’ll wear each set of trays for approximately two weeks, then switch.
It can sometimes be necessary to adjust the course of the Invisalign trays. This is done ahead of time as much as possible so as not to interrupt the treatment.
